Happy 05!
Friday, 31st December 2004 at 8:05PM (3064 days ago)
This will be my last post for 2004! Tomorrow is another day and another year. We're heading up to Nelson Bay nice and early tomorrow to begin phase 1 of the arcade cabinet and also to get away :)
I went to the Dulux trade centre yesterday and took my trusty pantone swtach fan book. I was very impressed that Dulux knew what paints matched what pantone colours. I gave them our corporate colour, but had to settle for 108 instead of 109, because there was no base they could use to make up 109. I got two lots of paint, a nice enamel based paint for the arcade machine and an acrylic for the office.

The guy at the Dulux centre thought I was a nutcase, but hey who cares :) I started to paint a test patch on the brick in the office which will become the feature wall with our logo on it. I'm going to use my stencil that I had made up for the arcade machine on the wall.

2005 is going to be a very fullon year with lots of stuff already on our plate. I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year and i'll be back in 2005!

Well that's it for 2004. We're officially closed and won't be back until 2005. Hope everyone has a fantastic and safe christmas and new years break.

I'll be finishing off the arcade cabinet in January and i'll definitely be posting pics and videos and whatever else I can think of during and after the construction!
So this is me signing off for another year. Have a safe one!

Amp
Sunday, 19th December 2004 at 5:51PM (3076 days ago)
I wandered into JB Hifi today and managed to pickup the last Sony Xplod 2 channel amp for way less than half price! I don't need anything too powerful as I don't want the cabinet to shake and rattle around, so I opted for a 2 channel 50W per channel amp.

The speakers can take about 200W of power each, but that's probably way way way overkill. Next I need to get an inverter to power the amp from mains power!

Picked myself up a very nice pair of Sony XPlod 6 x 9 inch car speakers. Strathfield car radio have a sale on and they were less than half price, only $70!

The plan is to use a small 2 channel car amp and hook a power inverter to it so I can run it from mains power. The magnets on the speakers should be far away enough from the screen to not cause any magnetic interference. If it does become an issue you can get shielded magnet attachments for the back.

I was just working in Illustrator CS when I stumbled upon a funny easter egg. Option clicking on the status popup next to the scale settings in the bottom left of the Illustrator window shows this:

Too funny :) One more week to go then it's 3 weeks of relaxation! Yay!

Laser me up!
Monday, 6th December 2004 at 5:26PM (3089 days ago)
After much delay it's finally here! The sides and control panel(s) of the machine arrived this afternoon. I was slightly annoyed to start with as they forgot to cut both sides when they rang and said it was ready last week!

It's a solid piece of MDF 12mm thick and precisely laser cut. Beautiful stuff :) The edges are slightly burnt from the laser, but nothing a little sand paper won't fix. I'll be heading up to Nelson Bay on January 14th to put the whole thing together, so in the new year it'll all be done! Finally! It's been almost 12 months i've been working on this thing and finally i'm actually getting somewhere. Can you believe it??
