On Thursday I surprised Renae with a trip away to Melbourne for her birthday. We stayed at the Crown Towers which were really swish and went out to some fantastic restaurants. I definitely recommend Silks at Crown, the best chinese food i've ever eaten!
I was surprised by the weather it was hotter than Sydney the whole time we were there! We met up with Scott on Saturday who took us around, I finally got to meet little Alf who shat himself when I arrived, fun!

We went up to the Rialto building on Saturday afternoon, 55 floors up to the observation deck and about 252 metres up (or 840 feet).

That's definitely a long way down!

On Saturday I wired up the cabinet and put the finishing touches. The only thing left is to wire up the coin mech which I haven't got around to doing yet.

Good to see a Mac running inside the cabinet, wouldn't have it any other way :) In the end I used my old Dual 500Mhz G4 with 1.25GB RAM, it runs very nicely indeed.

The buttons and joysticks all mounted and all working. They have a nicer microswitch compared to the other buttons I used to have. In the end I went with competition grade gear, the microswitches on the buttons are rated to over 10 million clicks which should hopefully get some life out of them.

Playing Street Fighter II Champion Edition, I just kicked Honda's ass! Take that honda boy!

That's right! Attack me if you dare! I will crush you! He's a lean mean fighting machine.

I wonder who'd win in a fight between the two? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode (or not).

All I can say is oh my god, it's done! I can't believe it. It's been over 12 months in the making and about 4 different ideas, but finally it's all complete!

The speakers; a pair of Sony Xplod 6" car speakers. They sound fantastic connected to my logitech sound system.

The joysticks, Happ Compeition joysticks, very very nice and really smooth action. Not as smooth as my old japanese joysticks, but still fantastic. I haven't put the buttons in the cabinet yet, that's the last thing on my list today.

The whole thing comes together really easily for transport. You slip the slides into the frame, slide the speaker/marquee area into the grooves at the top, stick the screen bezel on, then put the control panel down. All that's required is a screwdriver and quite a few screws.

So there we have it, the finished beast. After a long time of planning and construction and experimentation it's all there. If you'll excuse me i'm off to drink until i'm silly and play the old classics from when I was a kid.
