Doubletime!

I totally forgot the iMac has a hidden VGA port at the back. So I took the 17" LG screen I originally bought for the table and hooked it up. It's definitely a bigger picture. I'm currently debating whether or not to use it, my only issues are the heat with the two screens inside the cabinet.

I must admit though, having it going on both screens looks damn cool! I'm wondering if there's a way to disable the main screen and use only the external VGA. Only thing i've noticed though is that the colour is way better on the iMac's screen compared to the LG.

you should stick the screens at opposite ends of the table, or something. looks pretty cool.

You should definately build around the port and keep the external vga port active. Have it software toggle-able. That way, you can carry the system around and hook it up to a projector to do some serious 100" of fun. Also good to play on the iMac screen and let the 100" screen do the ego boosting -- complete with fans cheering (yay). Like what kids in tournaments do!

I'm thinking of using the 17" in a full size cab with the iMac in the base of the cabinet. That would give me more flexibility in arranging internal components. But again I have the heat issues to look at.

Of course it's going to be yellow with our logo on the side :)

How hard would it be to remove the iMac's CRT? That way heat isn't an issue anymore. Plus we get to see Jez break more things apart. w00t!

It might be doable, but I can't bring myself to break a Mac apart, plus that and i'd probably kill it :)

There's gotta be a software setting to disable the iMac's screen. Or a way to independently sleep the iMac's screen, that'd do it :)

I work at a Mac repair shop and I know a thing or two about their guts.

You're not really going to be able to kill the screen via any software setting. That just doesn't exist.

I'm entirely unsure if a CRT iMac can be powered up without its CRT being installed though. This I can look into tomorrow, if you know what I mean... :)

Phil, thanks. I do know you can boot it up without the screen, but that's only with something like the iRack by Marathon Computer.

i'd imagine you could open it up and disconnect the monitor pretty easily.. might be worth looking around inside

May I please know the stats on that mac?

Faith, it's a 450Mhz DV iMac with 384MB RAM running 10.3.4. :)

Mine's 400mhz (384mhz ram) with 10.3.3. Just a little too slow to handle more complicated tasks, and forget about playing new games on it.

I've got a 400MHz DV iMac with a faulty CRT, (I've got it running on an external monitor) and I'd be very interested on some guidence on disabling the built-in CRT. I'm not too frightened of opening the case as I only paid $50 for the whole thing.
