Happy new year to everyone. I had a nice break away and am still enjoying my time off. The arcade cabinet is almost complete, but i'm not gonna show you any pics until it's completed :)
I finalised the sound system today, but decided to take a different route. I'm still using car speakers, however instead of using a car amp and a dc power supply I bought a Logitech sound system and wired the Sony XPlod speakers into it. Cost of logitech system: $70, cost of doing it the other way: $300 +
I replaced my 6x9's with a pair of 6" speakers because of a number of reasons, namely they were too powerful and the magnets were too large and would require shielding in order to protect the screen. The speakers through the Logitech system sound really good. The speakers were a bit of a pain to get apart, I don't think they were meant to be taken apart.
The one good thing about these speakers is that they have a volume/power control which will neatly fit on the cabinet. The arcade parts are up at Nelson Bay and we're heading up there the weekend after next to finish everything off, not very long to go now!
The smaller Sony speakers are nicer looking and will mount alot easier in the cabinet. Once everything is finished i'm going to setup an area on this site that will document everything related to the cabinet including a list of parts that I bought over the last 12 months and costs of the different parts.
